OFW applicant loses P20K while filling up police clearance form at MPD

A young, prospective overseas Filipino worker (OFW) lost P20,000 which she intended to spend for her travel documents right inside the Manila Police District-Police Clearance area, while she was filling out a form to obtain a police clearance which is one of the requireme
nts for her to land a job abroad.

Vanessa Padua, 23, of Cagayan de Oro City and presently staying in Antipolo City, reported the matter to the MPD-Theft and Robbery Section.          Ironically, the incident also took place at the MPD Headquarters on United Nations Avenue in Ermita, Manila which also houses the Theft and Robbery Section.

In her complaint before SPO1 William Donato, the victim said she went to the MPD at around 11 a.m. yesterday to get a police clearance since she had no valid ID.  After filling out a form, she stood up to hand it over to the one in charge and found that the wallet she left in her seat was already gone as soon as she returned.

Police said there is no CCTV in the said area so that tracing the culprit will be difficult.

Melanie Ruela, who accompanied the victim, said she had earlier advised her not to bring so much money.

According to her, the victim arrived in Manila early this week to work on her requirements for a job in Kuwait. The money that got lost, she said, was intended for her needed documentary requirements, medical expenses and boarding house, among others.  Itchie G.
