Baldoz orders assistance to family of OFW killed in Saudi road accident

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz on Friday ordered agencies under her department to offer assistance to the family of an overseas Filipino worker killed in a freak road accident in Saudi Arabia last June.

Baldoz instructed the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Jeddah, Philippine O
verseas Employment Administration, and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration to look into the case of Engineer Albert Valencia Bautista.

“I already asked the POLO in Jeddah to immediately send us a report on the police investigation and to give us an update on the salaries and benefits that the OFW (overseas Filipino worker) must receive from his company,“ Baldoz said in a statement.

The DOLE said Bautista was killed in a freak vehicular accident last June 4.

His remains – chopped into five pieces – arrived in his hometown in Santana in Capitangan, Bataan.

Bautista was deployed to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Jan. 25, 2010, by Pert/CPM Manpower Exponents Co. Inc.

The DOLE said he renewed his OWWA membership on May 15, 2012, under a 12-month contract.

Baldoz said that while Bautista's membership is not up to date, she instructed OWWA Administrator Rebecca Calzado to "reconsider OFW Bautista’s case so he may receive death and funeral benefits.”

Meanwhile, she said POLO-Jeddah will continue to monitor the developments in the case and to constantly update the department.  — Joel Locsin /LBG, Source: gmanetwork.com/news/story
