OFW deployment to Thailand resumes

MANILA, Philippines - The processing and deployment of overseas Filipino workers to Thailand has resumed.

Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz on Mondays aid the governing board of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration has issued a resolution allowing the resumption of the processing and deployment of OFWs to Thailand.

This comes after the Department of Foreign Affairs lowered the crisis alert level in Thailand from Alert Level 2 (Restriction Phase) to Alert Level 1 (Precautionary Phase), as the situation in the country has "mostly returned to normal."

The POEA Governing Board had issued a temporary suspension on the processing and deployment of newly-hired OFWs bound for Thailand last May, after the DFA raised the crisis alert level to Crisis Alert Level 2 due to the declaration of Martial Law by the Thai army.

"The DOLE continuously works closely with the DFA in monitoring the situation in Thailand, and in all OFW-countries of destination which are having conflicts to ensure the welfare and protection of our OFWs. We are not taking any chances when OFW safety and welfare are at stake,” Baldoz said.
