OFW from Bukidnon beaten, raped, and left for dead in Saudi desert

Mario (not his real name), an OFW, is now in critical condition in a hospital in Riyadh after he was raped, beaten up and left for dead in the desert.

Identified by friend

In a report by JP Aleta of the ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau, Mario's friend, Junji Robles, revealed, that he was the one who identified Mario.

Robles said, "Ako po unang naka-identify. Sa Facebook kasi may nag post kung sino ang nakakakilala. Ako yung nagsabi na siya yung kabayan ko na taga-Bukidnon (I was the first one to identify him. When he was found, they took a picture of him and then posted it on Facebook. I was the one who said that he's my townmate from Bukidnon)."

The report said that Mario works as a service crew of an ice cream chain inside a mall. He just recently returned from the Philippines to Saudi Arabia for another contract.

Horrific injuries

Cecilia Jamila, another friend of Mario, said that prior to the attack, she last saw him on May 12. "Doon po kami nagkita sa Batha niyan (We saw each other in Batha)," she said.

Mario was found by the authorities in the early hours of May 16, he was naked and fighting for his life. He had sustained serious head injuries. He also suffered multiple bone fractures and is under observation for possible internal hemorrhage.

The search for his attackers

The report said that while Mario was still having difficulties in speaking and moving, he was able to scribble down words that would help identify his attackers.

According to Jamila, Mario wrote down that he was arrested in Batha.

"And then pagkakuha sa kanya dinala po siya sa Malaz. Dun po tinanong namin kung ilan ang gumawa sa kanya. Ang sabi n'ya apat po (Then, he said he was brought to Malaz. Then we asked how many people attacked him. He said he had four attackers)," she said.

Mario also was able to give a brief detail in writing of what the suspects did to him.

"Binugbog daw po siya at ni-rape daw po s'ya (He said he was beaten up and raped)," Jamila related.

Representatives from the Philippine embassy have already visited Mario. They have also been in contact with his employer.
