Family of distressed OFW gets aid

COTABATO CITY –- The family of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW), who was reported abused by her Arab employer, has been provided with financial assistance by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Soccsksargen, officials said Monday.

Rose Alcebar, of the DSWD-12 Social Welfare Action Development Center (SWADC), said they have given P10,000 to the father of Fahima P. Alagasi, an OFW from Pikit, North Cotabato who was allegedly abused by her employer by pouring hot water on her body.

The DSWD is set to help Fahima through its reintegration program.

The 23-year-old OFW is now at the safe house of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), said Susan Ople of the Ople Center, a non-government organization helping distressed OFWs.

North Cotabato Governor Emmylou Mendoza has instructed the provincial social welfare and development office (PSWDO) to visit Fahima’s family to identify the OFW's other needs.

Jocelyn Maceda, of the PSWDO, said Fahima’s father and a sister will fly to Manila this week to wait for his daughter’s return to the Philippines. (PNA)
